Lebanon, Indiana … As we approach the three-month mark of the new year, supply shipments to Malawi are well underway. Three shipments are currently en route: one containing famine assistance, another with mobility units, and a third with medical, agricultural, and educational supplies. All three shipments are 40-foot shipping containers filled to capacity. They will address critical areas of need in one of the world’s most impoverished regions.
With approximately 1/4 of Malawi’s 20 million people facing acute famine, Orphan Grain Train, with 27 locations nationwide and headquartered in Norfolk, Nebraska, is preparing another shipment of much-needed rice meals to Malawi.
A shipment from Mobility Ministries, headquartered in Demotte, Indiana, is currently in transit with over 200 mobility units. This shipment will conclude the current model, with a new design slated for release in the upcoming shipment later this year.
The second shipment, which departed from the Malawi Project headquarters in Lebanon, Indiana earlier this month, is filled with medical, educational, and agricultural supplies.
The estimated transit time for all three shipments is approximately 3 to 4 months, with all three arriving in Malawi in early July. The shipments will be delivered to the Lilongwe distribution hub operated by Action for Progress, which will then distribute them to sites across the three regions of the country. Action for Progressis the distribution and processing organization in Malawi responsible for handling supplies from the Malawi Project and its supporters.
