The chalkboard sign sits outside a brick school structure just a few yards east of the Mozambique border. This is Chewa for “Church of Christ”, and this sign and the congregation meeting inside the building was not here seven months ago. It is the results of the work on Priestly Nkhonjera, the administrator and the students at the Malawi International Biblical Institute in Dedza, Malawi. In only six months they have helped to establish a congregation of 50 people. It is part of the outreach program of the school and helps to train the students in ways to teach and convert the local people to Christianity. The school is a non-denominational program to train church leaders, and was established in 1999. The school is overseen by the Green Valley Church of Christ in Noblesville, Indiana.
George Domar, minister and elder for the Western Hills Church of Christ, in Austin, Texas traveled to Malawi with the Malawi Project, and was offered his first opportunity to preach in Africa at this congregation of 50 people in Sukasuka Village. Attendance and membership at the congregation is from both Malawi and Mozambique, as the border here is simply a dirt road and people from both countries pass back and forth across it with ease. George not only preached at this congregation during his visit, he also spoke to the students at Malawi International Institute, students at the Namikango Bible School, at the church in Thondwe, and at the Zomba High Security Prison.
