MALAWI’S NATIONAL STADIUM

Lilongwe, Malawi … Dominating the skyline of Lilongwe, on the northwest side of the city is the Bingu International Stadium. Named after former Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika, the $70 million (US) structure will hold 41,100 people. Groundbreaking took place in 2012, and on January 28th, 2017, the stadium was opened to the public. Bingu International Stadium is home to the Malawi Football League, and host to major sporting events in east central Africa. Situated on 32 hectares of land, the stadium was financed by China and designed by the Beijing Institute of Architects.
