WHAT DO YOU SEE?
Lilongwe, Malawi … When one watches the walls going up on the new Action for Progress distribution hub west of the capital what do they see? Blocks? Dirt? Mortar? Beams? Workmen in blue work uniforms? Yes, it is evident the casual observer will see these objects. But that is not the real focus of this building. Look beyond the current lens and see into the future.
Richard Stephens, a member of the Malawi Project’s board of directors, recently returned from visiting the construction site. He recalls some of the scenes, some of the children, he and his wife have met over the past 26 years. He observes, “If one sees only a building reaching skyward from the red, clay surface of the Malawi landscape, that person is missing the real scene. The reality of what is taking place is what this structure will mean to the real scenes that touch the future of Malawi, the children. It will house their future, the future for thousands of children as school books, library books, pens, pencils, paper, chalk, and a whole lot more in school supplies pass through this location on the way to schools all over the nation. As you watch the progress on the blocks, mortar, and beams, please replace those images in your mind with the ones below. These are the real images of what is taking place on this 5-acre plot that focuses on a future of hope and promise.”
Funding for this building has passed the $100,000.00 mark, but an additional $58,000.00 is needed to complete the project. Your decision to assist, even if your contribution is not a major one, will help put another block in place toward the completion of the building.
