Lilongwe, Malawi … Drip Irrigation systems are part of the Malawi Project’s ongoing effort to offset the effects of the current famine by helping the farming community get on its feet from the disasterous famine now affecting Malawi. These systems are one part of a three-pronged effort to help the Malawian’s get on their feet, and raise enough food to pull themselves out of the current disaster.
- Food shipments are filling the immediate gap as famine spreads across Malawi as a result of changing weather patterns in 2015-16.
- Step two is the influx of drip irrigation systems to add an additional crop in the next few months that will reach maturity just as the famine reaches its zenith.
- The third is the addition of the V-Tractors and Walk Behind Tractors. They are designed to give a massive increase in the capability for increased field cultivation that can help offset future famines.
The picture shows the progress in just one of the farm plots in southern Malawi. This one is at the Namikango Mission in Thondwe, Malawi. More stories of drip system success will be appearing on the Malawi Project web site and Facebook sites in upcoming weeks.
